About a year ago I took a felting class at The Yarn Tree here in Williamsburg. From the number of posts I wrote last March, it’s obvious I loved it! But then I decided to go and get married, and hobbies such as felting went on the back burner for a while.
But no longer! I’m joining the Craftons and the Wallaces in a craft booth at the Renegade Craft Fair in June. My goal is to felt 20 vignettes in 8 weeks. I’ve loaded up on supplies and already begun needling, and my idea mill runs nonstop, to the point I’m losing sleep.
Below are some of my initial pieces (my apologies for the blurry cell phone pics). The first two steps have been done: the fiber base has been laid out and I’ve needle felted the batting into botanical designs. Next up will be wetting and beating the fiber so that it becomes what you and I know as “felt.” Once dry, I’ll be mounting them to 9×9 pieces of wood for hanging.
I hope to post final pics soon (and sell off whatever doesn’t go at the fair). Stay tuned for more on this new venture.
