I’ve hit the savings jackpot. Or at least I think so. This post is primarily for you urban readers out there, who, like me, are probably sick of paying city prices at Key Food or schlepping through crowded Trader Joe’s with bloody heels resulting from the carts that keep nipping at them.

On a whim, I decided to check out Amazon.com for Brita filters, and found a great price. So I kept looking at things such as toilet paper, razors, etc. It turns out that, if you are willing to buy in bulk, it’s like belonging to a Sam’s club that delivers to your door. Seriously (and male readers, you can skip this sentence), Tampax is up to half the price. And on almost all of the things you normally need to buy, you can find ones that qualify for free super saver shipping. Just spend over $25, which isn’t hard.

I’ll let you know how the first purchase goes. Now I just have to find a place to store everything. Ah yes, bulk buying meets city apartment. Maybe I’ll post pictures :)

What a crazy, amazing, and awesome 3 months it has been since I went on my blogging hiatus to go get married. I’ve learned a lot since I last wrote:

First of all, getting married soon after you get engaged is totally the way to go. We had 2.5 months, so my life pretty much consisted of working, eating, sleeping, and wedding. But that was fine, because the busy-ness forced me not to belabor any decisions—I didn’t have time to. It was the perfect foil to my obsessive tendencies. Not to mention the fact that, when it all comes down to it, it’s only one day, and who wants to use up a whole year planning for a day that goes by so fast? We wanted to move on with the being married part.

Second of all, lists are the way to go. From the start, I wrote every single thing that came into my head about the wedding down in my Indesign wedding file. I don’t trust my brain to store anything faithfully. From the invite list to the schedule, to the tasks to the décor ideas, to the reception floor plans to the rainy day backup plans, it was all there. And not filling up my mind with worry that I’d forget something.

Thirdly, I’m so thankful that pretty much everyone reminded me at some point to make sure I enjoyed the big day. And I did. I honestly did. I got all my stress and worries and tears out getting everything ready the day before, and truly enjoyed being with Bill and all our friends and family on the wedding day. What was going to happen was going to happen, and we had done our best. And God was gracious to us. The whole thing was just amazing. We estimate that over 50 people prayed for a sunny, warm day. And that’s just what we got. Not a cloud in the sky and an amazing 70 degrees in October. There was awesome music, two great wedding messages by our Pastor Rob Elkin and Bill’s best friend Adam. At the reception, which included a delish brunch topped off with cider donuts, caramel apples and cheescake, Bill’s brother Ricky played a song he wrote. And we told our story. And then went on hay rides and got to catch up with everyone indoors and out, with the sounds of bluegrass playing in the background.

Fourthly, I learned that I have very giving family and friends. Bill and I wanted them as involved as possible, and they were! For example:
–Aunt Donna—she MADE my dress from a J.Crew catalog picture. In 2 months. Without me there (she lives in NH). Unreal.
–Aunt Debbie—she’s opening a florist shop this year, and I was her first wedding. She did a great job. The bouquets were perfect.
–Effie and Sophia—childhood friends who came to the rescue from Massachusetts to run the kitchen and prep all the brunch food. Home made French toast—mmmmmm…..

I’ll stop there on the list. If I get any more detailed, I’ll forget and offend somebody. Suffice to say, EVERYONE, from the bridesmaids to the family were a huge help in decorating, taking care of errands, cleaning up, hosting people, etc.

Lastly, I have an amazing mother. She did so much running around for me I don’t want to think of the gas bill. And I never got a complaint from her (she was probably just relieved I was finally getting hitched). She and my dad even managed to redo the entire kitchen before the rehearsal dinner. And now I think I need to amend my statement about quick engagements. Only get married 2.5 months after you get engaged if you have someone like my mom to help you get it all done. Otherwise, you’re crazy.

If you disagree, that’s fine, we can still be friends. But I’m sure others will find this interesting.
