Family in for the Weekend

This weekend I had the pleasure of hosting most of my family. They hadn’t been into NYC since I moved into my apartment, and this time was much more relaxed (even if we did cover the lengths of Brooklyn and Manhattan). We started at the Met. It happened to be families-go-for-free weekend, and we got to catch a few tours too.

Grandma Shirley, notice I wore the scarf you made me to the Met. I figured you would appreciate that since you couldn’t be there with me!

During one tour, we came across some, ahem, more modern mummies.

Then we visited my office. I’m gonna make it after all.

Next day we toured downtown Brooklyn and walked the bridge. Wendy paid us a visit.

I think the second Wendy is especially pretty.

Football at the park was a fun way to conclude the trip. The kids had been practicing their plays for months. Add in mom, and they were quite the team.

Team two was ready for them, though one member had a difficult time focusing on football.

Julie, though, was quite able to. Actually, she hates nerf football. She and John insisted that end of the game be played with a real football, no matter the broken fingers. The wind was wreaking havoc on their plays.

Would you join my church in prayer for a new, permanent meeting spot? We had to unexpectedly move out two weeks ago, and need direction and provision as to what’s next. There are some spaces for lease, but we’re praying for lower rent. Most importantly, though, we are so glad the church is not the building — it’s the people, our small, but excited, group who can’t wait to see what God is going to do in Brooklyn. Feel free to visit the WC site, which is soon to be updated, for more about us.

I hear the extended family has turned to this blog as THE spot to find pics of my little nephew, so here are some more for you guys.

Another blurry pic (sorry, the girls wanted to “help.”) Hard to believe this one was that small not too long ago.
img_5066.jpg Bill and I got to go up to Grandma’s in NH for some snowboarding and nature-hiking. This is the Connecticut River right near her house. Some would think such sparseness ugly. I relish it. Such clean lines and contrasts. And it is SO quiet.

One of my best buds from college, Jessica Templeton Cheke, came for a visit. Empanada Mama and Saint Patrick’s were must-visits.

Took a tour downtown recently. This building housed the Titanic’s shipping/ticketing offices. It might be a Citibank now, but some things remain.
img_5035.jpg Another best bud, Libby, and her husband came up for New Year’s. Central Park and the Staten Island Ferry (which goes by the Statue of Liberty) are picturesque and free.
